Welcome to blogskee!

I’m Tate and I occasionally do some analysis on sports data and write about it here. My most recent sports project involved building a predictive model to project fantasy baseball points for daily fantasy sports contests. You can read more about my projects in the articles below.

Check out my resume here.

If you would like to get in touch with me to discuss a job oportunity please email me at tjc530@gmail.com.

NBA Play Sequence Sunburst Plot

4.30.2016

Check out this sunburst plot I made in D3 which displays the relative freqeuncies of play sequences which ended in a scoring play during the 2011/2012 NBA Season. View the source code for this visualization on bl.ocks.org here.

NBA Pace of Play Scatterplot

03.25.2016

A D3 scatterplot showing the average offensive and average defensive pace of play for every team in the league (NBA 2015/2016 season). Is anyone surprised that the Warriors lead the league in offensive pace? Didn’t think so.

NFL Pass/Rush Prediction Model

03.11.2016

A regression model which predicts whether an NFL play will be a passing play or a rushing play based on time, down, distance to first down, offensive and defensive score, and the actual teams that are playing offense and defense. Use three letter abbreviations for NFL teams such as ‘ATL’ for Atlanta or ‘NE’ for New England. The model was trained using play by play data from 2002 to 2012 (10 seasons). If you're interested in the machine learning you can read more in a paper written by my colleagues and I here. [edit] The server running the prediction model has been suspended but please feel free to contact me if you're interested in trying it.
